Spurrigg End

This is the where I grew up, the last house on the edge of the vast moors of North Stainmore in the North Pennines.

The view of the gate is important to me as it signifies my return: beyond this gate, I am the ‘back at home’. The lane down from this gate holds memories of go karts, bicycles and walks with friends. This was the lane that had to be “dug out” in winter and the gave respite to the Romany horses as they made their way to Appleby Horse Fair in Autumn. This was ‘my lane’.
